MapsPeople Provides Hospitals with COVID-19 Emergency Wayfinding

The current COVID-19 pandemic has created new and unforeseeable challenges. With more than 2 million cases worldwide, hospitals have been forced to quickly transform to support the influx of patients in safe and manageable ways.

Together with our partner, BirdDog Technologies, we have developed MapsIndoors RED to reduce the risk of spread, protect resources, and communicate important information. MapsIndoors RED is a live and interactive map of your venue that allows patients and staff to easily locate medical supplies, test tents, and treatment centers without exposing other patients and visitors to the virus.

Under normal circumstances, 30% of first-time visitors get lost when they visit a hospital. If coronavirus patients start wandering hospital corridors, the consequences can be severe. With MapsIndoors RED patients can start by clicking a link in an email or text or even by scanning a QR code on a sign. This will immediately take them to a map of your venue on their mobile device without having to install an app. In the app, patients can search for locations within your hospital and get directions from their current location to the appropriate destination without needing to come in contact with staff or other patients. This is a no-touch intuitive way for patients to get from A to B in the most efficient and safe way possible.

MapsIndoors RED is built with Google Maps technology which ensures a seamless outdoor to indoor navigation. This means that patients can get directions directly from their front door to your test tent. The solution uses profile-based routing to guide users around your facilities, ensuring that symptomatic patients only have access to the areas reserved for coronavirus patients. Patients who may be contaminated with the virus can’t get directions to locations outside these areas and won’t be guided through areas for asymptomatic patients. Likewise, asymptomatic patients don’t have access to the coronavirus areas and will be guided around them. You can also have different user roles for staff depending on their job, so employees treating coronavirus patients are not guided through your hospital either.

“At MapsPeople we have extensive experience working with hospitals and other healthcare complexes. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic we immediately started looking into how we could use our expertise and knowledge to help and support hospitals in a fast and efficient way,” says Gary Wood, VAR Partner Manager at MapsPeople.

MapsIndoors RED will be delivered just 10 days after you’ve asked us to map your hospital. MapsPeople and BirdDog Technologies will scan and map your facilities, so all you have to do is to provide us with information about the total number of square feet, number of locations, and the total required floors.
