Report Driving Incidents on Google Maps

Many people rely on Google Maps daily to bring them from one place to another in the fastest and easiest way possible. But traffic can be unpredictable, and especially so if you commute during peak hours. Luckily for us, there are ways to stay updated and become able to avoid the worst traffic jams. 

Driving incidents are, unfortunately, inevitable, but sometimes you won’t know if one has happened until you’re sitting there, stuck in traffic. Google Maps is trying to change that. In its new blog update from October 17th, Google Maps announced that it’s now possible for people to report crashes, traffic slowdowns, and speed traps directly from their iPhone. The feature already exists for Android phones, but is now being expanded to iOS users as well.

And that's not all. Starting this week, Google Maps will start rolling out a new feature which allows users to report four new types of incidents: construction, lane closures, disabled vehicles, and objects on the road. You’ll quickly know if you’re approaching an incident, and the more specific categorizations will make it easier for you to plan your ride accordingly. If you encounter an incident, you can report it and warn other drivers simply by tapping the + sign and then “Add a report”. This way, you can help out your fellow vehicle users and allow them to choose other routes to not end up in the same traffic jam as yourself. We're sure that this has the potential to be a big player in many drivers' daily routines, so it's definitely exciting news.
