The ROI of indoor mapping depends on your use case, requirements, and the integrations you make to either generate new revenue streams or cut costs.
For instance, indoor maps serve as an enabler in smart buildings that helps building owners and tenants gain insights into occupancy, energy consumption and wastage, and people flow. With these insights, they can optimize their layout accordingly to get more value out of each square foot and reduce energy consumption.
In addition, the map makes it easy for employees in hybrid workplaces to find available desks and conference rooms that match their preferences and to collaborate with colleagues. In other words, the maps enable owners and employers to create a more comfortable and productive environment while cutting costs.
Working with fortune 500 companies that often have a considerable amount of internal resources, we are often challenged with the question, “why should we buy our map from you instead of creating our own?”.
The short (and maybe a bit cheeky) answer is, “because we can do it better, faster, and cheaper than you”.
The long answer, you can read in the customer story below…
One of our customers, an IT company that provides a workspace optimization platform, used to create their own indoor map.
The map they created was CAD files with overlaid points of interest (POIs) and data visualizations. While the map worked fine, it was time-consuming to create and maintain and not very scalable.
On average, the company spent 60-80 hours creating a map of approx. 10,000 m2 and 1,000 POIs. The process was time-consuming because they had to do everything manually - remove unnecessary information from the CAD files, add POIs one by one, and make everything look great at the same time.
In total, the company spent around EUR 6,000 in internal costs to create an average-sized map.
Right now, their platform is covering 100,000 M2. A number they expect to double during 2023. This means, that by the end of the year, they would have spent around 120,000 euros building maps - not including updates and maintenance.
By switching to MapsIndoors, the company could save thousands of euros per map or close to 100,000 euros per year based on their ambitions for 2023. And this is without even considering 1) the upsell opportunities MapsIndoors offers and 2) how much this saving will grow as they continue to scale their platform and get more clients and thereby also more updates to make.
