Google is canceling its I/O developer event this year, amid the ongoing coronavirus;
“Due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in accordance with health guidance from the CDC, WHO, and other health authorities, we have decided to cancel the physical Google I/O event at Shoreline Amphitheatre,” explains a Google spokesperson in a statement.
Google I/O was due to take place May 12th this year, and the cancellation comes just days after Google scrapped its Cloud Next event in San Francisco in favor of a “digital-first” event.
MapsPeople, BrainsBusiness, and Google Developer Group Aalborg have decided to cancel the extended version of the event as well.
“In respect of Google’s decision we have decided to cancel our event - we’ll come back stronger in 2021 with an even better event for the tech community in Aalborg,” says Michael Gram, CEO of MapsPeople.
You will most likely be able to follow the I/O event digitally as Google usually allows streaming for everyone. We will share updates from Google and you can keep yourself updated through this page: https://events.google.com/io/
