MapsPeople powers MWC 2017 with indoor navigation

With close to 100,000 attendees, 5000 CEO’s and 2000 exhibitors, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry.  From the 27th of Feb to the 2nd of March 2017, the Spanish city of Barcelona, will be filled to the brim with the world’s largest, most innovative and most exciting IT companies.

MWC is the place to be for anyone who works in the mobile industry or has an interest in the next big digital milestones.

So, what does it take to map one of the world’s largest events of its kind?

Carefully chosen by Fira Barcelona and the GSMA, MapsIndoors, our digital indoor wayfinding platform, will be used this year to map out the entire exhibition facility, providing visitors with immediate access to a navigation tool right at their fingertips.

In partnership with location positioning companies Polestar and MOCA, MapsPeople have developed an app wayfinding solution, allowing users to see routes from their hotel, all the way to a specific stand in the exhibition halls. Together, MapsPeople, Polestar and MOCA will deliver value for visitors, organisers and exhibitors alike by focussing on both usability and ROI for all in attendance.

How’d we get it right?

One of the most important features of developing a wayfinding solution for large scale venues is ensuring it will work for users offline, especially given the size and scale of an event like Mobile World Congress. Users will benefit from an enhanced digital wayfinding solution built on the familiarity of Google Maps and a series of categories inside the exhibition centre.

Through the use of geofencing, the exhibitors at the event will be able to interact with users through location based information and offers, which should attract them to specific booths as they walk by.

Organisers can benefit from powerful in-depth knowledge about user behaviour and preferences, through Indoor Location Analysis, which can help them improve and adjust future events to always be 100 percent optimised for actual visitor behaviour.

Our CCO, Jonas N. Berntsen adds: “We are proud and happy that Fira Barcelona have placed the trust in us to provide digital indoor wayfinding to the Mobile World Congress. It is a very important showcase arena for a digital product like MapsIndoors and we are sure it will benefit visitors, exhibitors and organisers during this years event.”
